Fragments of the Infinite

A solo exhibition of landscape paintings at & Gallery, Sorrento, exploring colour, movement and the changing natural world.
Artist statement
My practice explores the expressive potential of landscape painting through bold color, layered textures, and dynamic mark-making. Working in acrylic I respond to the natural world and translate it into abstracted impressions. Nature is both my subject and my refuge—a space for reconnection and reflection. I am drawn to its rhythms, vastness, and transience, seeking to evoke a sense of something greater than ourselves. Inspired by artists such as Van Gogh, Joan Mitchell, Elisabeth Cummings, David Hockney, and contemporary landscape painters, I embrace gestural brushwork and intuitive abstraction to convey movement, energy, and emotion.
The natural world is vast and in constant flux—shaped by time, weather, and unseen forces. The paintings in my current body of work, Fragments of the Infinite, capture but fragments of this endless transformation, glimpses of something infinite. Each scene is just one of countless possible perspectives, a fraction of the landscapes that exist and have existed, just as every moment we experience is part of a larger continuum.
The floating elements—fragments of color, suspended forms—represent the energy that moves through each scene, escaping, shifting, dissolving. They suggest that no moment, no place, can ever be fully contained; everything is in motion, always becoming something new.
The process of painting mirrors this impermanence. Layers of paint are built up and scraped away, echoing cycles of erosion and renewal. Gestural marks respond to the movement of the land—its rhythms, textures, and quiet shifts over time. My creative process is deeply intertwined with my emotional state, as I believe that cultivating a positive, attuned mindset translates into the vibrancy and resonance of my work. These paintings are not static representations, but explorations—fragments of an endless, ever-changing whole.

Material Tangential to My Painting Practice: soft plastic packaging braided into an organic form.
Artist statement
"Material Tangential to My Painting Practice" is an exploration of the overlooked materials that accumulate through the act of making art. The plastic waste from canvases and frames—normally discarded without thought—is braided into an organic form, revealing the unseen byproducts of creative labor. This transformation echoes the exhibition's theme of Tangles / Detangles, where discarded materials are reworked into something new, questioning the relationship between creation and waste. Thread, as a medium, often goes unnoticed, much like the hidden costs of artistic production. In this work, I replace traditional fibers with an artificial byproduct of my practice, making the unseen visible. The act of braiding mimics traditional textile techniques while challenging the material expectations of thread-based art. By reconfiguring what is usually discarded, I invite viewers to consider the broader environmental and conceptual implications of material use in art. What is deemed waste? What threads are lost in the process of making? This work serves as both a critique and a meditation on materiality, labor, and sustainability in contemporary artistic practice.

A solo exhibition at SOL Gallery, bringing together expressive landscapes and reflections on growth, hope and the natural world.
Artist statement
My latest series of acrylic paintings reflects my personal journey of growth and self-discovery, inspired by the natural beauty of the Australian bush. Each painting is an exploration of the interplay between light and dark, color and texture, and the delicate balance between nature and humanity.
Through expressive brushwork, abstraction, and gestural marks, I explore and practice the emotional and psychological aspects of self-development. My creative process is an act of pushing through my own limitations and boundaries. Practicing courage and vulnerability, embracing imperfections and change, to expand my self-awareness, self-efficacy, and creativity in new and exciting ways.
Using multiple layers and techniques such as scraping, dripping, adding, and subtracting paint, I build textured surfaces that reflect the complexity and beauty of the landscapes that inspired them.
Meditation and mindfulness inspire me to remain present in the moment and find flow, creating art that inspires others to find their own sense of balance and gratitude while encouraging them to embrace their creativity and imperfections.
My goal as an artist is to capture the essence of the natural world and expand the human experience, creating meaningful and thought-provoking artwork that serves as a mirror to our inner selves.

Two large drawings on reclaimed cardboard and live sketches made during the Climate Guardians procession.
Artist statement
As a climate war artist at the frontlines of the Climate Guardians’ REVOLT procession in Melbourne on 24 February 2023, I captured the event live in dynamic A3 sketches. Walking with the Angels as they played the Federation Handbells through the CBD, we passed the headquarters of major climate polluters, the sounds of the bells strongest near these companies.
The sketches aim to convey the tension and urgency of the event and the climate crisis, presented on a neutral background to highlight the contrast between the darkness and light of the Climate Guardians and their sounds.
Two large works on reclaimed cardboard offer a larger-scale representation of the procession, featuring graphite, charcoal, and pastel layers that create a complex and layered view of the city. The architecturally dynamic 3-point perspective speaks to the tense times we live in. By using reclaimed materials, the aim is to address the climate crisis and bear witness to what is happening.
The work engages with pressing social and environmental issues, aiming to inspire awareness, action, and positive change in an energetic and complex world.

Olga’s first solo exhibition, presented at Gasworks Arts Park. The paintings explore the rhythms of the landscape through colour and expressive mark making.
Artist statement
Olga Dziemidowicz is a Polish born artist currently working from her studio in St Kilda.
Inspired by nature, she embraces chance in the creative process. Dziemidowicz works expressively and intuitively to capture the creative, healing, and universal value of nature.
In her first solo exhibition, Olga invites us to look deeper by presenting the natural landscape through expressive application of bold colours and mark making.
“I value freedom, joy, and authenticity. I believe we need to listen to ourselves more, listen to our calling. Painting the landscapes that inspire me is my way of expressing my calling, sharing it with the world, and by doing that perhaps inspiring others to do the same.
Working as an architect helped me understand line, form, and perspective. Working as a designer helped me empathise with other people. But being an artist/painter helps me connect with something bigger and makes my soul happy.
When I'm creating, I feel I'm where I belong and I'm excited about what's to come!"

Celebrating 1029363, a charcoal work honouring a mature tree outside the National Gallery of Victoria.
Adapted from the artist’s original statement
I made this work to celebrate the mature plane tree outside the NGV. Long before the gallery building existed, this tree was already contributing oxygen, shade and beauty to the city. Its number, 1029363, comes from Melbourne’s Urban Forest register.
Older trees, like older people, can have their contributions overlooked. When they become frail or are removed, their presence can be forgotten. I wanted to preserve a trace of this tree and honour the life it has supported.
Using frottage—rubbing charcoal and graphite over paper held against the trunk—I recorded the bark’s individual pattern. The resulting image is a portrait of the tree at a particular moment, retaining its mark and celebrating its contribution beyond its own lifetime.
